Balancing a professional career in banking while raising a child can offer unique perspectives for parents. Mrs. Isha Apoorva, mother of Class 3 student Ditvi Padhi, believes that early learning environments offered by schools such as Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park play a crucial role in developing skills that complement academic growth, setting children on a path for future career success.
Read edited excerpts:
What skills do you think are essential for a career in banking?
Patience and positivity are key. In banking, decisions often require careful consideration and attention to detail. Similarly, students need to learn how to stay calm under pressure, manage time effectively, and think critically. These qualities, developed from an early age, help not only in banking but in any professional field.
What academic foundation should students build for finance or banking?
Mathematics and commerce form the backbone of finance careers. From school through higher education, students should focus on developing a strong understanding of concepts. While basics like addition, subtraction, and percentages are used daily in banking, advanced mathematics like algebra and statistics also helps build analytical skills. Until Class 8, it’s important to value all subjects because interdisciplinary knowledge can be an advantage later.

How do you see technology impacting banking careers in the future?
AI and digital tools are transforming finance. Banks are increasingly adopting technology for audits, lending, and operations. Future banking professionals need to combine traditional finance knowledge with tech literacy. Early exposure to problem-solving, logic, and analytical thinking in school can help prepare students for this evolving landscape.
Any advice for students aspiring to enter banking?
Focus on building a strong foundation, stay patient, and remain positive. Don’t rush the process; excellence comes with consistent effort. Once you choose your path in Class 9 or beyond, pick courses like commerce and mathematics seriously, pursue B.Com or B.Sc., and follow up with an MBA in Finance. The combination of strong academics and soft skills like collaboration, communication, and discipline will set you apart.
How has being a parent influenced your professional perspective?
Watching my daughter grow at Apeejay has reinforced my belief that early learning environments are key to shaping skills like confidence, teamwork, and responsibility. The values instilled at school complement professional skills and prepare children for real-world challenges.
