Read her journey…

Which performance felt like a turning point for you?

The first Odissi dance piece I performed was truly a turning point in my journey. It was special because it marked my transition from practice sessions to a real stage. That performance helped me overcome nervousness and understand the power of connecting with a live audience.

Why did you choose Odissi as your dance form?

I was deeply inspired by its grace, expressions, and storytelling elements. The intricate hand gestures and powerful facial expressions instantly attracted me. I feel connected to its spiritual essence and cultural richness, which motivates me to keep learning and improving.

Has any senior artist’s feedback helped you improve?

A senior artist once advised me to focus more on my expressions and eye movements. She explained that in classical dance, emotions speak louder than steps. That feedback helped me refine my abhinaya and made my performances more impactful and expressive.

What area of your dance improved the fastest this year?

This year, my stamina and stage confidence improved drastically. Earlier, I used to feel slightly nervous during long performances. With consistent practice and stage exposure, I learnt to maintain energy, balance, and expressions throughout, which significantly strengthened my overall presentation.

Tell us about your performance at the Indian International Centre.

I performed at the Indian International Centre during the Tribal Affairs event. We invited the organisers, and it was an incredible opportunity. Performing in front of such a respected audience gave me immense confidence and exposure to a wider cultural platform.

What did receiving the award from the Minister of Tribal Affairs mean to you?

Receiving the award from the Minister was an unforgettable moment. Being honoured in front of nearly 500 people felt truly special. It validated my hard work and dedication, and I felt proud to represent my art form.

How has your family supported your dance journey?

My parents have been extremely supportive throughout my journey. They encourage me to balance academics and dance effectively. They attend my performances, motivate me during challenging phases, and ensure I get proper training. Their belief in me strengthens my determination.
