The Science Exhibition at Apeejay’s IB School celebrates student voice, creativity, and collaboration

The Science Exhibition stands as a powerful reflection of the International Baccalaureate (IB) philosophy in action, celebrating inquiry, innovation, collaboration, and meaningful learning. Keeping this experiential education in mind, Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park, successfully hosted its much-awaited Science Exhibition. The exhibition provided a vibrant platform for young learners to showcase their understanding of real-world issues through research, creativity, and hands-on exploration.

The event was graced by the presence of the school’s Vice-principal, Ms Neha Sharma, along with dedicated teachers and proud parents. They witnessed the depth of thought, confidence, and enthusiasm with which students presented their projects. The exhibition hall buzzed with curiosity and excitement as students confidently explained their ideas, learning journeys, and takeaways, embodying the learner profile attributes encouraged by the IB curriculum.

Students of PYP-1 were visibly enthusiastic as they proudly showcased handmade items created entirely from scratch. From eco-friendly paper bags to thoughtfully designed pen holders, their exhibits highlighted early awareness of sustainability, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Their joy and confidence while presenting reflected the nurturing learning environment that encourages students to think independently from a young age.

An exceptional and impactful presentation was given by PYP-4 students, Aarya, Dhyana, and Sanaya, who focused on eco-friendly alternatives to plastic use. Their project drew attention to everyday plastic items often used unconsciously, like toothbrushes, combs, and plastic straws. The students thoughtfully proposed sustainable alternatives, including wooden combs and brushes and steel straws. The project, which took nearly a week to build, carried a strong message on sustainable development and responsible choices, leaving visitors with a powerful environmental takeaway.

The exhibition also featured several insightful projects presented by students across grades. These included a comparative study of sustainable and unsustainable homes, explorations of water theory, and a creative integration of mathematics through real-life structures. One mathematical model showcased a house built using geometric shapes, cuboids for the structure, rectangles for doors, squares for windows, and cylinders for chimneys, complete with accurate measurements. Projects on carbon footprint further reflected students’ growing awareness of environmental responsibility.

Among the most outstanding projects was a detailed presentation on digital pollution: E-waste, highlighting how electronic waste is generated, processed, and recycled. This project strongly emphasised the importance of minimising the use of digital gadgets. The exhibit was presented by Daniel, Daiwik, Anika, and Enas of PYP-5, who worked collaboratively for over a week. While the journey involved challenges and differing opinions, the students effectively applied their prior learning in conflict resolution, demonstrating teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills, core elements of the IB learner profile.

Parents appreciated the effort and dedication displayed by the students. Sharing her thoughts, Mrs Prerna Agnihotri, mother of Nayra Saini (PYP-5), remarked, “It was wonderful to see the students stay back till 4 pm and put in such sincere effort. Their innovation, learning, and confidence were truly commendable. They have definitely improved their skills, and it was heartening to witness such meaningful learning.”

Overall, the Science Exhibition was a remarkable showcase of student voice, agency, and inquiry-based learning. The event not only highlighted academic understanding but also reflected creativity, collaboration, and real-world application. The exhibition truly reinforced the IB philosophy, making it a memorable learning experience for students, teachers, and parents alike.
