Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park, organised a PYP to MYP Transition Session on March 29, 2025, to help young learners confidently take the next step in their academic journey. This informative session was specially curated for the students of PYP 5 and their parents, aiming to ensure a smooth and meaningful shift from the Primary Years Programme (PYP) to the Middle Years Programme (MYP).

The transition is a significant moment in a student’s academic life. The session provided students and parents with a clear understanding of what lies ahead and how the MYP framework differs from the PYP, both in terms of academic structure and student expectations.

The session began with a warm and heartfelt welcome to all attendees. School educators introduced the IB MYP framework, helping students and parents familiarise themselves with the core aspects of the programme. Through easy-to-understand explanations, the speakers highlighted key concepts such as interdisciplinary learning, concept-based inquiry, learner agency, and the assessment criteria used in the MYP.

Each of these components was explained in detail to help parents see how the MYP encourages deeper thinking, independent learning, and real-world application of knowledge. The focus was on creating learners who can ask meaningful questions, connect ideas across subjects, and take ownership of their learning journey.

Insightful guidance from the educators

Subject teachers took the stage to give an overview of different subject groups within the MYP. They outlined how each subject is taught and how students are assessed. The use of criterion-based assessment in the MYP was explained simply and effectively, ensuring that even parents new to the IB curriculum could follow along easily.

This open and informative session helped break down the academic structure into understandable components. Teachers made sure parents understood the curriculum’s purpose and how it helps students in the long run.

Principal’s address: Holistic education for global citizens

The school Principal addressed the gathering, offering thoughtful insights into the philosophy behind the MYP. He spoke about how the MYP is designed to foster global awareness, compassion, and reflection among learners. Emphasising the importance of a holistic approach, he also shared how the programme helps students grow not just academically, but also personally and socially.

The Principal’s message was reassuring and motivational, encouraging parents to view this transition as a step towards developing confident, well-rounded, and responsible global citizens.

Parents appreciate clarity and commitment

The session received positive feedback from parents, who expressed how helpful and clear the information was. They appreciated the school’s effort to make the transition smooth and transparent, sharing that they now feel more reassured, informed, and excited about their child’s upcoming journey in the MYP.

This event is a testament to the school’s commitment to nurturing students who are curious, confident, and capable of handling new challenges. By taking the time to explain the academic changes and philosophy of the MYP, the school ensured that both students and parents feel prepared and supported.

The session successfully achieved its goal — to bridge the gap between the PYP and the MYP and to help every learner begin their next academic chapter with enthusiasm and clarity.
