Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) alumnus Tarun Kanodia walks down memory lane as he talks about his formative years pursuing MCA, the vibrant campus life, and the transition to a successful professional journey. Now serving as the Assistant Registrar at a university in Punjab, he attributes much of his confidence and competence to his time at Apeejay. In this quick yet insightful conversation, he shares highlights from his student life, placement experience, and current responsibilities. Read edited excerpts:
What were your biggest learnings from the MCA course at AIMETC?
The MCA course gave me a solid foundation in programming, software engineering, and computer graphics. We had a structured academic schedule with plenty of assignments, presentations, and practicals that truly prepared us for the real world. I also picked up vital management principles which, looking back, helped me immensely in my administrative career. And yes, the teachers were incredible—supportive, experienced, and always ready to guide us through real-life examples.
Why did you choose MCA and AIMETC?
I was always passionate about technology. After completing my BSc in IT, pursuing an MCA felt like the right step forward. Someone recommended AIMETC to me, praising its academic environment and excellent placement track record. Once I got there, I was impressed by the faculty, infrastructure, and overall culture. It just clicked. My dream was always to work in the field of computers, and AIMETC gave me the platform.
Could you walk us through your campus placement journey?
Yes, I was campus placed at IKG PTU. The placement training at AIMETC really helped—there were regular group discussions, aptitude sessions, and mock interviews. The selection process had four rounds: an aptitude test, technical test, technical interview, and HR interview. I feel glad to say I did great in them.

We were told you have 3 patents to your name?
Yes! I have three patents published. The first is: Design of an automated traffic management system with sensors to predict the occurrence of disasters and alert the drivers on highways. The second is: Advanced web browsing analytics through natural language processing and the final one is: A machine learning based technique to suggest the medicines of similar properties in drug discovery. I also have 2 books to my name.
Please also tell us briefly about your current office responsibilities?
Today, as Assistant Registrar, I handle administrative tasks, IT maintenance, social media, and I also serve as the Training and Placement Officer for four campuses—Mohali, Hoshiarpur, and Amritsar included.
So, what’s your advice to current students?
Stick to the basics and trust your teachers. Focus on what’s being taught and keep yourself updated with the latest tech trends. If you do that with sincerity, success will follow. In my line of work, being alert, responsive, and focused 24/7 is crucial—so developing those habits early on will go a long way.
