The whistle blows, the crowd roars, and here comes Number 10, weaving through defenders not just on the football field but also through the world of storytelling! Ryaan Singh Sahni, a teenager from Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, isn’t just playing midfield for his school house Nilgiri—he’s also the star author of Dream Big, a book where he becomes FC Barcelona’s ultimate game-changer. In this high-energy interview, Ryaan takes us through his love for Messi, writing process, and what’s next in his literary league. Read edited excerpts:
What inspired you to write your book Dream Big?
Well, my love for football was the biggest reason—and of course, my mom! She encouraged me to turn my dream into a story. That’s how Dream Big was born.
So what’s the story about? Give us the highlight reel!
It’s about me playing for FC Barcelona! In the book, I look like Messi and play like Messi too. I defeat the best teams and help my side win every match. It’s like my football fantasy come true!
So between Inter Miami and FC Barcelona, ( Between Messi’s current and all-time team) which team would you really want to play for?
Definitely 2008–09 FC Barcelona! That was their golden era—they won the Champions League and played like magic. That team is everything.
How did your school react when they found out you had written a book?
Everyone was so happy! My teachers praised me a lot and some of my friends even got inspired to write their own books. Four other students actually did!
You play football in school too. Tell us more!
Yes, I play midfield for Nilgiri House. I try to play like Messi—he also plays as a false nine, which is kind of like midfield and forward both. That’s my style!
When did you start writing stories and what’s next in the pipeline?
Dream Big is my first book, but I’ve been dreaming and imagining stories for a while. Next? Maybe a sequel! I’ll probably write about winning the 2026 World Cup with Messi and Argentina. Sounds cool, right?
