Meet Siyanshi Shaoran, a rising shooting star from Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri, Haryana. The Class 9 student recently ranked among the top 50 at the Pre-State level 10m air pistol shooting championship, competing against 4,000 participants. With unwavering focus and daily training sessions, Siyanshi is now eyeing the State Championships. In this quick chat, she talks about her journey, inspiration, and why she finds shooting empowering.
When did you start shooting, Siyanshi?
I began training in June last year, when I was in Class 8. It’s been a little over a year now, and I already feel deeply connected to the sport.
What drew you to shooting out of all sports?
There’s a shooting range close to where I live, and one day I just walked in out of curiosity. What struck me was how different and empowering this sport felt. It demands patience, laser-sharp focus, and calmness under pressure. That instantly appealed to me.
Tell us about your experience at the Pre-State Qualifiers.
It was an incredible experience! The event took place at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in Delhi, and over 4,000 participants competed. I had to go through 10 rounds, where you can shoot as many times as you want. I scored 90 points and hit the bullseye four times. It felt surreal to be ranked in the top 50!
How has your school supported your journey?
My school has been very encouraging. Once I shared the news of my selection, my teachers began praising my efforts and motivating me. Principal Sir has been very supportive. My classmates are curious and always ask questions about shooting—they cheer me on, which means a lot.

What’s your next goal in this journey?
The State Championships! That’s my focus now—nothing less than the bullseye. I’m training hard and keeping my mind steady for it.
How long do you practice each day?
After school, I train for 4 to 5 hours daily. It’s intense, but it’s something I genuinely enjoy. The routine keeps me sharp, both mentally and physically.
Do you have a role model in this field?
Yes! Swapnil Kusale is my inspiration. Although he is a rifle shooter, the way he maintains focus and composure under pressure really motivates me. I hope to emulate his discipline and success someday.
