Kritika Dhanghar, an accomplished alumna of the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC), specialized in TV and Radio Production Journalism. After completing her PG Diploma, she launched her career at Aaj Tak as a video editor in production output. Now, having completed her internship, Kritika is eager to explore new opportunities and spread her wings in the field of journalism. Let us know more about her journey through this fun chat.
What was work life like at Aaj Tak?
I was involved in a wide range of responsibilities. I diligently checked news content for specific time slots, reviewed visuals, collaborated with anchors, and coordinated scripts. I also worked closely with the graphics department, ensuring seamless integration of visual elements by guiding the editors there.
Was working at Aaj Tak as busy as it sounds?
Certainly! After a 15-day morning shift, I was assigned to the night shift for two and a half months, working from 11 PM to 8 AM. It was a demanding schedule, especially during major events like India winning the T20 World Cup. On the final day of the world cup, we had an enormous amount of work, gathering live footage and visuals to broadcast on the channel. That was a particularly challenging day.
And how was your experience at AIMC?
I learned a great deal during my studies. We had access to the studio throughout the day, which was incredibly beneficial. We followed a routine where we would send our professors the top headlines of the day and then read them out loud. This exercise not only helped us with our delivery but also kept us informed about global news.

What skills did you acquire at AIMC?
I honed a diverse set of skills, ranging from production and video editing to camera operation. I also gained expertise in filmmaking, graphic design, and various technical aspects essential for the media industry.
How would you describe your teachers at AIMC?
The professors at AIMC were more like friends, they guided us inside and outside the classroom. Our Dean was particularly amiable and supportive, always encouraging us to reach our full potential.

But how did you develop an interest in journalism?
I come from a political family, so I’ve always had a keen interest in journalism. My dream has always been to work in front of the camera. Television has always fascinated me, and I’ve been passionate about pursuing a career in this field.
What are your next steps in your career?
I’m searching for the right opportunity as a reporter. I love reporting and am patiently waiting for the perfect fit that aligns with my passion and skills.
