Parents spend hours on end researching to find the perfect school for their child. They ask family and friends, they look for reviews of the school on the Internet and then make a calculated decision. They also look at the curriculum the school is offering. But they want their child to have an extra edge and look for a school that provides holistic development.

For Satendar Kumar, father of Urvashi Kumar, a student of class XII, the holistic development of this school has clinched the deal.

In an impromptu interview, the father discusses the significance of a well-rounded curriculum.

What made you choose this school?

The first and foremost reason for choosing this school is that holds a great reputation and has a brand name. The school has been around for a few decades. However, Apeejay Education has a legacy of over 50 years. I preferred prestige over practicality even though we reside close to the school.

Positive attributes in your daughter ever since she joined the school.

She has become a better person. She has shown remarkable obedience and dedication. Over time, she has achieved exceptional academic success in her class X Board exams. My daughter is very enthusiastic about building her career in biology and the good part is that it happens to be her favourite subject.

It is always important to encourage your child to take a profession in which he/she has an interest. You should never force your will on your child.

How do you spend quality time with your daughter?

We have a strong father-daughter relationship. When I am at work, she is in school or studying. Once I am home, we make it a point to spend quality time together, engaging in quality conversations. This could be related to school work or personal stuff. At times, we treat ourselves to ice cream or plan impromptu outings. This gives a break from the otherwise mundane routine.

Are PTMs held regularly?

Yes. I closely monitor my child’s growth and development. For the same, I mostly attend the PTMs which happen monthly. It is important to attend these meetings. Not only does it ensure that you are in constant touch with the teachers, but it is also a great way to monitor your child’s academic progress without constantly hounding the child to study.

The good thing is that her teachers have good things to say about her and their feedback is always positive.

How do you encourage your child to study at home?

In this case, my daughter is exceptionally proactive. She knows the essence of studying at home, which is why there is no such need to motivate or encourage her to study.

What is your parenting mantra?

Learning is a continuous journey, but it’s crucial to adhere to your ethical and cultural values along the way to become a good human.
