‘I cherished my trip to Sikkim,the land of happiness’ 

Ananya Ambrit, a class 6 student at Apeejay School, Nerul, has already embarked on mastering the difficult art of travel writing. Her recent travelogue about her trip to Sikkim was not just entertaining but also very informative and enriching for the reader. 

Selected as Apeejay writer of the week, let us know more about Ananya’s craft and her upcoming works.  Read edited excerpts:

 Ananya, since when have you been writing?

I started writing during the covid pandemic, I was in third class back then. I used to read a lot of story books of different genres and from different authors. Once, while reading a book an idea sparked in my mind and I thought of penning it down. When I showed it to my mother she was impressed by it and encouraged me to continue my creative writing.

Do you write only about your travel adventures or also focus on other genres?

I mostly write fiction especially about mythical creatures like fairies and monsters and poems about random ideas mostly on nature. Before that I also authored my very own book named Dreamscapes which contains my poems and short stories. It is available on Amazon. But travel writing is also my passion. I wrote my first travelogue about Udaipur in December 2022 and since then, I have been really fascinated about writing my travel adventures.

What inspired you the most about your Sikkim journey?

At first, I was really uncertain about the trip and very unenthusiastic about the bumpy roads and haunted cliffs. But I was pleasantly surprised to see the mesmerizing countryside and that was what motivated me to write the travelogue. I also wanted to cherish the memories of my beautiful stay there, which is why I wrote about ‘Sukkhim’, which lives up to its name, ‘The land of happiness’.

And how does your school encourage you to write?

 My school teachers appreciate me and support me for my writing. They motivate me to participate in various story writing competitions.

Who is your favourite writer?

It is definitely J.K Rowling and I am a proud potter-head. The way she weaves magic with her words is commendable. 

And what are your next writings?

 I like to write fiction stories. So right now, I am concentrating on my short stories. I am also waiting for my next trip to happen so that I will again write about my travel experience.

Finally, tell us about your favourite books?

My favourite books obviously include the Harry Potter series by JK. Rowling, The Magic of the Lost Temple by Sudha Murthy and Diary of a Wimpy kid series by Jeff Kinney and lastly but most importantly Feluda series by Satyajit Ray. I love how these books engross me into their enchanting world.
