‘I believe leadership is about service, not position’

Simarpreet Kaur, a Class 11 student of Apeejay Svran Global School, serves as the Head Girl of the institution. Known for her commitment to honesty, kindness, and respect, she strives to lead by example while balancing academics with strong human values. The recipient of the Dr Stya Paul Award for Human Values, she remains motivated to continue serving others with sincerity and purpose. Read edited excerpts of her interview:

How did you feel when you found out that you would be receiving this award?

I felt extremely happy, proud, and grateful. Receiving the Dr. Stya Paul Award for Human Values is a great honour for me. It made me feel that my efforts, values, and responsibilities as the Head Girl were recognised. This award motivated me to continue doing good and serving others with sincerity.

How did your school and teachers support you in this journey of achievement?

My school and my teachers have played a very important role in my journey. My teachers encouraged me to balance leadership with humility, discipline, and compassion. Their support helped me grow both academically and personally.

Human values are core to this award. How do you try to uphold them in your daily life?

I try to lead by example. I practise values like honesty, respect, kindness, and empathy in my daily life. I listen to others, support my peers, respect my teachers, and try to resolve issues peacefully. I believe leadership is about service, not position.

Do you believe in learning something new every day? How do you implement that?

Yes, I strongly believe in learning something new every day. I learn from my teachers, my classmates, and even from my mistakes. Every day gives me an opportunity to improve myself and become a better leader and a better human being.
