For most students, Class 10 is all about textbooks, tests, and targets. But for Samriddha Roy, from Apeejay School, Greater Noida, it was also about words, wit, and winning stages – quite literally. Scoring an impressive 98.40% in the CBSE board exams was just one part of her multifaceted journey.
From anchoring school events to performing in skits and rising to the state level in Spell Bee competitions, Samriddha’s story is proof that strong language skills, consistent reading, and a curious mind can open doors far beyond the classroom. In this conversation, the young achiever talks about how she built her vocabulary, balanced academics with extracurriculars, and found joy in speaking, spelling, and self-growth.
Samriddha, congratulations on reaching the state level in Spell Bee! How did your journey with the competition begin?

Thank you! Interestingly, I found out about the Spell Bee just a day before the registration deadline. I signed up without expecting too much. But once it began, the experience turned out to be so engaging – with weekly word challenges, online tests, and structured levels. I ended up reaching the state level, which felt surreal!
That’s incredible! How did you prepare for it in such short notice?
Initially, we were given a vocabulary list to learn for the first level. I had about 15 days for that. But for the later rounds, like regional and state, we had a couple of months. However, for me, reading has always been the key. If you’re someone who reads regularly, you naturally pick up vocabulary without even realising it. That’s exactly what helped me – reading, not just memorising.
What was the experience like during the competition rounds?
The rounds were very well-coordinated. They were held online and were invigilated. Each round got tougher, but also more exciting. I loved the structure – we were divided into groups and constantly challenged. Even if you joined without much prep, you ended up practicing a lot thanks to the format.
Did your teachers help you during this process?
Absolutely. My English teachers were so supportive. They weren’t officially required to help with Spell Bee, but they regularly checked in on me, asked how my prep was going, and even helped clarify meanings and pronunciations from the vocabulary list. It meant a lot to me.
You mentioned you love public speaking. Can you share more about that?
Yes! I really enjoy being on stage. I’ve anchored several school events, participated in plays and skits, and have also taken part in MUNs. Spell Bee helped polish my articulation, and being on stage helped build my confidence. They complement each other really well.
