The Apeejay’s IB School is known to have an all-rounded educational scope aimed at intellectual, personal, emotional, and social education. Of all the options available under the International Baccalaureate (IB), the Extracurricular Program (ECP) is one of the most dynamically suited as it fuses high standards for rigorous academic rigour and activities of practical vocational training. It is a forward-thinking programme that prepares the minds of young people for the issues of higher education and the global workforce.
The essence of ECP is in the unique structure it has achieved to blend career-related studies with pure IB Diploma courses. Industry-specific pathways like business, healthcare, or the arts, are offered alongside standard academic disciplines, giving students the flexibility to customise their education experience. This balance ensures students develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills in their chosen fields.

According to Ms Shiny Seth, a Yoga teacher at Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School, International, Panchsheel Park, ECP-Yoga is unique as it focuses on developing practical abilities like balance, flexibility, and focus. “It integrates physical, mental, and emotional growth through continuous improvement practising discipline which helps foster lifelong learning and resilience,” she said.
She added that ECP-Yoga balances academic rigour and career-focused learning by blending modern theory with practice. “Students learn yoga philosophy alongside practical skills like asanas, pranayamas, and meditation which help in fostering discipline and focus. This dual approach equips them with knowledge and teaching skills, preparing them for careers in yoga while staying rooted in its principles and delivering values,” the educator shared.
The Personal and Professional Skills (PPS) is an important feature of the ECP, as it trains the students to think critically, communicate well, and make ethical decisions. Accompanied by this is the Reflective Project, which enables the students to examine research-based inquiry of authentic problems related to career areas that interest them. These two aspects promote intellectual curiosity about workplace problems in depth.

Mr Anant, the AI/Robotics/ML Facilitator at Apeejay’s IB School, shared that extracurricular programmes like Robotics and AI, yoga, dance, and music play a vital role in fostering holistic development, aligning with the IB framework’s emphasis on creating balanced, reflective, and caring learners.
“These activities enhance Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills like thinking, self-management, and communication while nurturing creativity, innovation, and social responsibility. By engaging in diverse programs, students cultivate the skills and values necessary for both academic success and meaningful societal contributions,” the educator said.

Incorporating real-world scenarios aligns with Apeejay’s IB inquiry-based approach to learning, emphasising relevance and application. “Especially in Robotics and AI, we use Project-Based Learning (PBL) to engage students in solving authentic challenges. For example, the students design robots for environmental clean-up, programme robotic cars to navigate paths while avoiding obstacles or create Python programmes to analyse data trends for decision-making,” Mr Anant explained and added that students like Neal, Vivaan, and Himav have demonstrated significant personal and professional growth, showcasing how ECP has positively contributed to their growth.
“By participating in a robotics competition that involved designing a robot to collect and sort trash, these students enhanced their collaboration and communication skills, refined their technical expertise in programming and design, and demonstrated ethical responsibility toward environmental sustainability. Their success embodies the IB learner profile, showcasing them as balanced, knowledgeable, and principled individuals,” he shared.
The IB programs emphasise the holistic development of learners under their care at Apeejay’s IB Continuum School. While the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB-DP), IBPYP, and IBMYP provide a comprehensive academic framework, the ECP program complements this by integrating career-oriented goals with learning opportunities.
