Honouring contributions and inspiring respect on Labour Day

Students at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi embrace the spirit of Labour Day, acknowledging the importance of human dignity

Labour Day is celebrated annually on May 1, a day dedicated to honouring the contributions and achievements of workers and holds significant value in educational settings. It is essential to incorporate Labour Day celebrations into school activities is essential to instil an understanding of the history and importance of labour rights among students.

The day serves as a reminder of the labour movement’s struggles and achievements. To evoke a similar sense of awareness, respect and belongingness amongst students, Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar celebrated Labour Day within the school premises.

The day was commemorated at the school under the leadership of the Principal, Mr AK Sharma, and the guidance of the Vice-principal Mrs Aarti Shorey Bhat, with great enthusiasm. The occasion was marked by a sincere expression of gratitude towards the hardworking employees who play a vital role in keeping our school functioning smoothly.

The day commenced with a special assembly focused on fostering appreciation for the school’s workers among students. Students made cards for the school helpers to recognise their hard work.

Students of class IV performed a group dance honouring the dedication of the workforce. A speech by Jaskaran Kaur, student of class XI emphasised the significance of Labour Day and the need to respect those who support us in our daily tasks. The school’s support staff also shared poems, songs, and thoughts. Miss Sheela and Miss Sona contributed their views and a poem titled Sapno Mein Rakh Aastha (Keep faith in dreams) which broadly inspired everyone to overcome difficulties and move forward.

  In his address, Mr Sharma recounted the history behind the day and how workers fought for their rights and recognition. “This day is a tribute to their perseverance and contributions,” he said. Mr Sharma also emphasised the importance of respecting every job and worker, highlighting that no work is insignificant.

  He commended the students for their efforts in organizing the assembly and stressed the importance of appreciating the hard work and commitment of the working class.

At the event’s conclusion, Mr Sharma, extended greetings on International Workers’ Day.
