Healthy smiles, happy hearts

Aiming to foster dental wellness and awareness among young students, a comprehensive dental check-up camp was organised at the school premises from March 3-6, 2025, for students of nursery to Class II. The initiative, led by renowned dentist Dr Sakshi J Sawhney, emphasised the importance of oral health and hygiene, ensuring that children develop healthy dental habits from an early age.

The primary objective of this camp was to assess, regulate, and maintain students’ dental wellness while educating them on preventive dental care. Dental hygiene is a crucial aspect of overall well-being, and this event sought to instil good practices that would benefit students throughout their lives.

The camp featured an engaging dental awareness talk where students learned about common dental ailments, particularly tooth decay and gum diseases. Dr Sawhney highlighted the importance of maintaining proper oral hygiene and shared valuable insights on how to prevent dental problems.

The following key issues were addressed during the awareness session:

  • Common dental ailments: The students were informed about prevalent dental problems like cavities, gum diseases, and plaque build-up.
  • Preventive measures: Dr Sawhney emphasised the role of a balanced diet in dental health, advising students on healthy eating habits that help prevent tooth decay.
  • Importance of milk teeth: Many parents and students overlook the significance of primary teeth, but the session shed light on how milk teeth play a crucial role in the proper development and alignment of permanent teeth.
  • Brushing and hygiene habits: Students were encouraged to brush their teeth twice daily using the right technique and to incorporate warm saline gargles into their routine for optimal oral health.
  • Regular dental check-ups: The importance of visiting the dentist every six months was stressed to ensure timely detection and treatment of potential dental issues.

The camp was not just an informative session but an interactive experience where students enthusiastically participated and asked insightful questions about their dental health. Dr Sawhney patiently addressed their queries and provided practical tips for maintaining good oral hygiene.

Children also engaged in fun activities that reinforced what they had learned. Visual demonstrations and storytelling techniques helped them understand the impact of unhealthy eating habits on their teeth. These activities made the learning process enjoyable and memorable.

The school believes that such awareness programs play a pivotal role in students’ overall well-being, and this dental check-up camp was a testament to that commitment. Ensuring that children understand the importance of oral hygiene will help them maintain healthy, sparkling smiles for years to come.

With the success of this event, the school looks forward to organising similar wellness programs in the future, continuing its dedication to the holistic development of students. Parents and teachers were highly appreciative of this initiative, recognizing its value in fostering a culture of health and hygiene among young learners.
