The celebrated American folk style, freestyle wrestling coach, Dan Gable once said, “Gold medals aren’t really made of gold. They’re made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.” These words hold true for students of Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri in Haryana.

At the Annual Sports Day of the school, young sports enthusiasts participated with great zeal and determination. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Mr. Suresh Kumar Malik who has coached many national and international wrestlers. He is also the Secretary of the Sports Council at Chaudhary Bansilal University in Bhiwani, Haryana.

The sports day commenced with the hoisting of the school’s flag by the Chief Guest. This was followed by a power-packed march past by students. Mr. Malik then inaugurated the event formally. Further, he spoke about how sports is essential for the all-round development of an individual. He said, “Sports is an important means for a person’s physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual development.” He added that it not only develops immunity but also ties one in the thread of unity.

After his address, the students clad in vibrant costumes performed mind and body uplifting exercises such as Suryanamaskar, PT, aerobics etc. Mr. Malik appreciated their efforts and then declared the School Annual Athletic Sports Meet Open.

A total of thirty sports competitions were organised in the school including various races, long jumps, high jumps, shot put, discus throw, just to mention a few. “In our school we are trying to make sports a part of every child’s life since it is not just a curricular aspect. Big playgrounds may be a rarity these days but not for us. And so, our students keep nothing in the tank while taking advantage of this facility. The same was evident by the skills they showcased on the Annual Sports Day 2022. I further congratulate the winners and participants in making the event a grand success.”
