Amidst the scorching heat wave sweeping across Haryana, the state government has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety of students. In response to the escalating temperatures, the government has instructed deputy commissioners (DCs) to closely monitor the weather conditions in their respective districts on a daily basis. Based on their assessments, the DCs have been empowered to determine whether it is necessary to declare holidays for both government and private schools.
In a directive issued by the Directorate of School Education on Sunday, the state government outlined the protocol for evaluating the prevailing heat wave and making decisions regarding school closures. The letter emphasises that DCs, in coordination with district education officers, are authorised to decide on the closure of schools for any specific day or days. These discretionary powers are granted to the DCs until May 31, providing flexibility to respond promptly to changing weather conditions and ensure the well-being of students and staff.
Furthermore, recognising the severity of the situation, the state government has already announced a one-month summer vacation for both government and private schools, commencing from June 1. This preemptive measure aims to mitigate the potential risks posed by the intense heat and safeguard the health of students during the peak of the summer season.
