In a delightful display of creativity and collaboration, Apeejay School, Sector 15, Faridabad, hosted a vibrant parent connect activity – Toy-a-thon – for the Pre-primary Wing. This unique event invited a few enthusiastic mothers to participate in an engaging toy-making session, aiming to strengthen the parent-school bond while promoting the core values of early childhood education.
The event took inspiration from the National Curriculum Framework for Foundation Stage, which emphasises the role of toys and play in a child’s development. Recognising this, the school designed Toy-a-thon as a platform to showcase how learning through play can be both joyful and meaningful. It highlighted the importance of nurturing creativity and hands-on learning in the foundational years.

Mothers as co-creators in learning
The session transformed traditional classrooms into buzzing, creative corners where mothers, educators, and students came together to explore the world of toys. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as mothers got actively involved in designing and crafting toys using everyday materials. The event encouraged innovative thinking and allowed participants to use their imagination freely.
Children, too, participated in the process, giving their input and working alongside their mothers. This collaborative spirit enhanced their learning experience and strengthened emotional bonds. It was a heartwarming sight to see tiny hands helping shape their first DIY toys, guided lovingly by their parents: Ms Yogita Bhati, mother of Yuvaan Raghav, Ms Anima, mother of Mishka Sethi, Ms Pooja Agarwal, mother of Parth, and Ms Rohini Rampal, mother of Rajvi.

Building bridges beyond the classroom
More than just a toy-making activity, Toy-a-thon served as a bridge between the school and home. It offered parents a deeper understanding of the school’s pedagogical approach, which integrates play with learning. At the same time, it allowed educators to witness the enthusiasm and creativity that parents bring to the table.

The event concluded on a cheerful note, leaving behind colourful toys and even more colourful memories. It was a fine example of how schools can engage parents meaningfully in the education journey of their children. Through Toy-a-thon, Apeejay School reaffirmed its commitment to holistic, hands-on learning that goes beyond textbooks and into the heart of playful discovery.
