At the third meeting of the Consultative Committee on the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Teaching and Learning, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the expanding role of AI in improving learning outcomes across school and higher education in India. The meeting focused on how AI can address key challenges within the education system by making quality learning more inclusive, accessible and equitable.

The minister underlined the government’s continued focus on student-centric and personalised learning approaches, with AI playing a crucial role in meeting the diverse needs of learners and educators while strengthening overall academic outcomes.

A comprehensive presentation on school education showcased the systematic integration of AI across the education ecosystem in alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Curriculum reforms discussed included the introduction of age-appropriate computational thinking and AI literacy from the foundational stage, increased emphasis on project-based learning, and the formal inclusion of AI as a skill subject at the secondary level.

The presentation also highlighted several national digital initiatives that leverage AI to support teaching and learning. These include DIKSHA 2.0, e-Jaadui Pitara, Guru-Mitra (the TARA app), My Career Advisor and Vidya Samiksha Kendra.

Another session focused on the role of AI in higher education, emphasising its impact on strengthening teaching-learning processes, research, innovation and graduate employability. Discussions covered AI-enabled curriculum updates in centrally funded institutes, the integration of interdisciplinary and skill-based courses, and the expansion of both digital and physical infrastructure to support advanced research and learning environments.
