Google is developing an advanced AI technology, code-named Project Jarvis, which will enable artificial intelligence to operate directly within users’ web browsers and computers. This ambitious project aims to bring a new level of automation to online tasks, allowing the AI to conduct activities like research and online shopping autonomously, as reported by The Information.

Expected to debut with Google’s upcoming Gemini large language model, Project Jarvis will enable the AI to handle complex tasks independently by controlling browser functions and interacting seamlessly with web content. This development will expand AI’s capability beyond simple responses, making it a more hands-on tool for online navigation and task completion. Sources indicate Google may showcase this innovation as early as December.

Other tech leaders are exploring similar technology. Microsoft-backed OpenAI is working on an AI-powered computer-using agent (CUA) designed to conduct web-based research autonomously, as Reuters reported in July. Meanwhile, Google and Anthropic are collaborating on technology that pushes these capabilities further, aiming to create software capable of interacting more directly with users’ browsers and computers.

The rapid advancements underscore a growing race in the AI space to develop virtual agents that can streamline digital interactions, potentially transforming how users engage with online information and perform tasks across the web.
