Google, part of Alphabet Inc., plans to invest $10 billion in a major data centre and artificial intelligence hub in Andhra Pradesh. State officials confirmed it will be the company’s biggest investment in India. The new facility, located in Visakhapatnam, will include a 1 gigawatt data centre campus powered by large-scale energy systems and a high-speed fibre-optic network. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurien said it will be the largest AI hub outside the United States.

The formal agreement between Google and the Andhra Pradesh government is likely to be signed today.

The State Investment Promotion Board, chaired by the Chief Minister, has approved the project. The state’s Economic Development Board and the Department of ITE & C will provide clearances, renewable energy options, and plug-and-play infrastructure to speed up construction.

According to official estimates, the project could add around Rs 10,518 crore to the state’s economy each year from 2028 to 2032. It is also expected to generate nearly 1.9 lakh jobs annually. In addition, Google Cloud-related productivity gains are estimated at Rs 9,553 crore per year, totalling about Rs 47,720 crore over five years.

The investment comes as global tech giants race to expand their data and AI infrastructure to meet the rapidly growing demand for artificial intelligence services.
