A global study of over 32,000 workers across 47 countries reveals that Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools are rapidly reshaping the workplace, with 58% of employees intentionally using AI at work and one-third doing so weekly or daily.
Key reported benefits include increased efficiency (67%), better access to information (61%), enhanced innovation (59%), and improved work quality (58%). General-purpose generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, are the most widely used, with around 70% of employees preferring public tools over employer-provided solutions.
Despite this widespread adoption, organisations are lagging in providing structured support. Only 34% of employees report that their workplace has a formal policy for using generative AI, and fewer than half (47%) have received AI training or education. This signals a pressing need for better guidance, training, and governance.
AI literacy, which comprises training, knowledge, and confidence in using AI, was found to be a strong predictor of both adoption and critical engagement. Employees with higher AI literacy are more likely to evaluate AI outputs carefully and understand the tools’ limitations, leading to greater trust and more performance benefits.
The report also emphasises the importance of building a workplace culture that encourages open dialogue around AI use. Such environments foster shared learning, support innovation, and ensure that AI continues to be a valuable asset.
With responsible deployment, clear guidelines, and investment in education, AI has the potential to transform work processes and drive sustained performance improvement across industries.
