Securing a placement is more than just landing a job, it is about translating classroom learning into real-world impact. For Harsh Bedi, a student of Apeejay School of Management, this journey culminated in his selection as an Inside Sales Manager at SelfSpec Technologies. Specialising in Operations and Marketing, Harsh’s placement story reflects preparation, persistence, and the power of conceptual clarity.
Read edited excerpts:
How did your placement journey with SelfSpec Technologies begin?
My journey formally began when I received my offer and joined on 15th December. It was an incredible moment, not just for me, but for my family as well. Getting placed through Apeejay School of Management felt like a milestone. The institute’s placement seminars and interview preparation sessions gave me the confidence to face corporate rounds despite earlier setbacks where I couldn’t convert opportunities fully.
Can you walk us through the interview process and how you approached it?
There were three rounds—Group Discussion (GD), followed by two Personal Interview (PI) rounds.
In the GD, the topic was “India’s Growth Vision 2030.” I spoke about how structured tax reforms and economic planning could strengthen India’s growth trajectory and benefit both citizens and businesses. I connected macroeconomic growth to employment opportunities, which the panel appreciated.
In the PI rounds, the classic “Tell me about yourself” question came up. I ensured my answer aligned with the company’s profile. I had researched the organisation beforehand, which helped me confidently discuss how my skills could contribute to their goals. That preparation made a strong impression. I was selected as the only candidate from the college for the company.
What concepts from your MBA specialisations helped you crack the placement?
Marketing concepts, especially the sales process, were extremely helpful. Prospecting, identifying and generating quality leads, was something I had studied in depth. Understanding customer perspectives before pitching a product gave me clarity during the interviews. These structured frameworks helped me articulate practical solutions rather than theoretical answers.
What does your role as an Inside Sales Manager involve?
My work primarily involves connecting with schools through online calling. I collect and analyse information about whether schools have counselors or psychologists available. Since career guidance and psychological support are crucial areas for students, our services align closely with institutional needs. Prospecting and understanding client requirements are key aspects of my role.
What excites you most about this new phase?
What excites me is the opportunity to interact with schools and understand their counselling ecosystem. As students, we all face critical career decisions, so contributing, directly or indirectly, to that support system feels meaningful. This role allows me to apply my marketing knowledge while gaining practical exposure in the education sector.
