Entrepreneurship is no longer limited to seasoned professionals. Many young students, both in schools and colleges, are discovering the power of creativity, innovation, and initiative. Developing entrepreneurial skills early not only builds confidence but also prepares students for a future full of opportunities. Here are some essential tips for aspiring young entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurship begins with cultivating a growth-orientated mindset. Students should stay curious, embrace challenges, and view failures as opportunities to learn. Developing resilience and adaptability helps navigate uncertainties and fosters a proactive attitude toward problem-solving. Equally important is identifying a passion and purpose. Whether it’s technology, arts, social work, or business, focusing on an area of genuine interest keeps motivation and creativity high over time.

Learning and experimenting play a crucial role in developing entrepreneurial skills. Students can leverage online courses, workshops, and mentorship programmes to understand business planning, marketing, and financial management. Hands-on experience through small projects or school-based initiatives allows them to apply knowledge without significant risk. Alongside this, developing essential skills like communication, leadership, time management, and problem-solving is vital. Participation in group projects, competitions, or volunteering builds competence, confidence, and teamwork.

“Networking and seeking mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs, teachers, or industry professionals provides valuable guidance. Mentors help refine ideas, avoid mistakes, and make informed decisions, while networking opens doors to partnerships, collaborations, and resources. Starting small and scaling gradually is a practical approach for young entrepreneurs. Beginning with low-investment projects, like school-based businesses or online ventures, allows them to gain customer insights and practical experience before expanding,” Shagun Poddar, an alumna from Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, who is a seasoned wedding planner, shared.

Embracing technology is key in today’s digital world. “Social media, e-commerce platforms, and digital marketing provide cost-effective ways to reach audiences, promote products, and gather feedback. By combining curiosity, practical experience, skill-building, mentorship, and technology, school and college students can develop a strong entrepreneurial foundation, nurturing innovation, independence, and confidence from an early age,” she said in conclusion.
