Mrs. Neelu Shahi is the mother of Apeejay School Model Town, class six student Gurinder Shahi. She is a dance teacher and founder of: Sweet Sixteen Dance Academy. She is also a post-graduate in Kathak. Her husband Vishal Shahi is a businessman and a hotelier. In an exclusive interview, she shares her reasons for choosing the school, her son’s holistic progress and her perception of the online mode of learning. Edited excerpts:

Why did you choose Apeejay School, Model Town, over other schools for your child’s admission?

My husband likes Apeejay Model Town as a school a lot. The school takes away stage fear from a child’s mind and adds confidence to their personality. Apeejay School, Model Town does not turn students into book worms whose sole objective in life is academics. They initiate their students from the very beginning into extra-curricular activities. All teachers give me the feedback that my child is good in all activities whether it is music, dance or speeches. All the teachers are just too good. They encourage my son a lot. I am totally satisfied with the school.

Please tell us a bit about your child and take us through his progress at school?

He is a bubbly child who some days wishes to be a YouTuber (laughs). His favourite channel is Techno Gamerz. He keeps watching their videos and increasing their views. I tell him to create his own channel and upload his performance videos there.   He is interested in singing and music. He is learning to play the harmonium and the tabla. He is going to a music class near our house and has recently learned all the tabla taals.

He loves watching Bollywood movies. He liked Tiger Shroff a lot until now but he now says that he likes Robert Downey Jr for his enactment of the Iron Man the most.

He is a bit afraid of Maths. He is learning Abacus but still he doesn’t like Maths. He likes English and Science. He is performing well in school. But the teachers tell me that he is very talkative and talks during the classes with his best friend Divij. However, he is focused on the lesson during the classes now.

Are the teachers engaging well with the students?

All the teachers are really good. I am totally satisfied. All the teachers are very soft-spoken. I feel the Principal. Sinia Sajith Ma’am is the best.

What is the best thing about Apeejay School, Model Town?

From the teachers to the gatekeeper of the school, everybody is really soft-spoken with the parents. The teachers are really concerned about the well-being of the child. I think that is the best.
