Pranjali Ranjan, an alumnus of Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication’s (AIMC) Advertising and Marketing Communications course, shares her journey from creative content writing to her current pursuit of Civil Services. With a background in English Honours and work experience in advertising, Pranjali’s path is marked by significant transitions and aspirations. Here’s a closer look at her experience at AIMC, her career motivations, and her future plans.

Pranjali, could you tell us about your course at AIMC and what you found most valuable?
I pursued Advertising and Marketing Communications at AIMC. My main goal in joining this course was to gain practical exposure, which I achieved through the countless insightful guest lectures and the expertise of visiting faculty. These experiences provided me with a solid understanding of the industry’s workings and what to expect after graduation. The college faculty also played a crucial role in this, helping me acquire thorough knowledge about the field with their all comprehensive lectures.
What motivated you to choose a career in advertising and marketing communications, and how did your previous experience shape this decision?
After graduation, I worked as a content writer, which fueled my creative side. I wanted to explore other areas like copywriting and advertising, and that’s when I discovered AIMC. The creativity and vast opportunities in advertising appealed to me, leading me to pursue this field. My previous role as a content writer gave me a foundation, but I was eager to dive deeper into advertising.
Can you share more about your educational background and how it influenced your career path?
I graduated with a degree in English Honours, which naturally led me to the content writing field. My background in English was instrumental in honing my writing skills and understanding of language, which I later applied to advertising and marketing communications.

How did the campus placement drive at AIMC go, and how well did the teachers prepare you for it?
The teachers were incredibly supportive, assisting with CV preparation and interview readiness. They were available beyond designated hours for additional help, which was a significant advantage. Their guidance extended to preparing us for interviews and group discussions, making sure we were well-equipped for the placements.
You were placed at Integrated Band Heuristics but opted out to prepare for Civil Services. Can you explain your decision and current focus?
I was offered a full-time role at Integrated Band Heuristics after completing an internship there. I worked for about three months before deciding to pursue Civil Services. Although the position was a valuable experience, I realized I wanted to focus on preparing for competitive exams, particularly Civil Services. I decided to shift my focus to this new goal, which I had planned to explore later in my career. And I am working hard towards achieving my target.
