In a warm and reflective chat, Gauri Rawat, an alumna of Apeejay School, Noida, class of 2024, talks about her transition from a spirited school student to a determined MBBS student at Gurugobind Singh Medical College, Faridpur. With honesty and gratitude, she revisits her school days, the teachers who stood by her, and the family dream that led her to medicine. Read edited excerpts:
Tell us a little about your time at Apeejay School, Noida. What did you take away from those years?
A lot, honestly! Apeejay School, Noida has shaped much of who I am today—my personality, my confidence, and the discipline I carry into medical college. Those years built my foundation, not just academically, but also emotionally and socially.
Which subjects did you love the most in school?
Biology was always my favourite. It fascinated me right from the beginning and it’s the reason I chose the medical stream.
Were you active in extracurriculars too?
Definitely, especially before the COVID years. I was really into swimming and also played throw ball and football. Sports were a big part of my routine and I always looked forward to those practice sessions.
Did you participate in any other activities like music, dance or arts?
Not really. Music wasn’t my thing, but I did take part in a few speech events here and there. But my main interest was always in sports.
How were the teachers at Apeejay? Any mentors you’d like to mention?
The teachers were wonderful—so many of them guided me along the way. My Class 12 class teacher, my biology teacher, and even my maths teacher from Class 8 stand out. During NEET prep in Class 11 and 12, their support made a huge difference. They were always encouraging, and that really mattered.
What inspired you to pursue medicine?
My parents, especially my mother. She always dreamed of seeing me in a white coat. We don’t have doctors in the family, and she wanted someone to follow that path. And for me, medicine has always felt like a noble profession—something that lets you serve in a truly meaningful way.
