First time voters enthusiastically participate in the biggest festival of democracy

Recently, Delhiites casted their votes for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections for 250 wards, which will decide the fate of 1,349 contenders, including 709 women. As per the Election Commission announcement, the results of the MCD elections will be announced on December 8.

On this occasion of MCD elections in Delhi, National Service Scheme (NSS) of Apeejay Stya University, Gurugram recently organised a campaign ‘Vote Do Community Hours Lo’ to encourage first time voters to participate in the biggest festival of democracy and fulfill their constitutional duty of casting vote in the election.

While voting for the first time, Chandrajeet Dhara, a B Tech  student pursuing Biotechnology, said, “My experience as the first time voter has been great and an edge over the sense of responsibility towards the betterment of our society and electing a leader who will work wholeheartedly.”

Another student, Fardeen Siddiqui studying B.Design said, “I am really excited as I voted for the first time. Visiting a polling station, choosing the candidate on the EVM and casting a vote was a new and different experience. Now I feel like I am grown up and I am a citizen of my country. I have the power to make someone win in the elections.”

“Casting a vote should be considered a national duty. If we don’t cast our vote, we lose our right to question our public representatives”
