Understanding the importance of imbibing the knowledge of “Financial Well-Being”, Apeejay School of Management (ASM) recently conducted a guest lecture on this theme. Aimed at creating awareness about the true meaning of financial well-being and its critical role in shaping both personal and professional lives, this session was organised for the PGDM (Finance) Term V students as a part of their Financial Planning course.

The session was led by Dr. Neelam Tandon, Founder and Managing Director of Well-Being Shiksha Foundation and a certified trainer with SEBI. Dr. Tandon began the session by defining financial well-being not merely as earning money, but as a balanced state of having control over one’s finances, the ability to withstand financial shocks, and the confidence to meet present as well as future financial goals. She stressed that financial stability is deeply connected with emotional health and overall quality of life. Through relatable examples, she explained how poor financial planning often leads to stress, anxiety, and reduced work efficiency, whereas sound financial habits promote confidence and long-term security.

The speaker elaborated on key pillars of financial well-being, including budgeting, disciplined savings, responsible borrowing, and long-term investing. She encouraged students to cultivate the habit of tracking expenses regularly and understanding the difference between needs and wants. The importance of building an emergency fund to handle unforeseen situations was also highlighted as a fundamental step toward financial resilience. Dr. Tandon further explained how intelligent debt management can protect individuals from falling into financial traps and improve creditworthiness over time.

A significant part of the lecture focused on the role of financial literacy in empowering individuals to make informed decisions. The students were introduced to simple tools and techniques for expense tracking, managing liabilities, and planning for life goals such as higher education, home ownership, and retirement. She also emphasized how ethical practices and transparency form the backbone of effective financial planning.

Addressing the professional dimension, Dr. Tandon spoke about the crucial responsibility of financial planners in guiding individuals and families toward sustainable financial decisions. She noted that future finance professionals must combine technical competence with ethical sensitivity to build lasting trust with clients.

The session was highly interactive, with students actively participating through questions and discussions. Many learners shared their personal experiences related to savings and money management, which further enriched the dialogue. The practical orientation of the lecture helped bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-life financial decision-making.

Overall, the guest lecture proved to be an enlightening and meaningful learning experience. It enabled students to view financial well-being as a holistic concept that supports not only personal stability but also professional excellence. The session left the participants better equipped to manage their own finances responsibly and to serve future clients with greater awareness and confidence.
