At Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, learning goes far beyond the four walls of a classroom. Recently, the school organised an enriching and delightful field trip for Kindergarten students under the theme “Exploring Our Neighbourhood – The Play-Way!” The initiative aimed to combine experiential learning with community awareness, and it delivered exactly that — a joyful and informative journey that helped children discover the world around them through real-life experiences.
The adventure began in the classroom with an engaging discussion where children shared names of the places near their homes — from grocery stores and parks to banks and eateries. Their curiosity was palpable, and this excitement set the tone for the day. With bright eyes and cheerful chatter, the students set off to explore the neighbourhood, ready to absorb every new experience like a sponge.
The first stop was the Supermarket, where students learned to identify different food items, understood basic categorisation, and grasped the concept of healthy versus unhealthy choices. They observed how shopping is done, how billing works, and the importance of everyday essentials. The next destination was the Bank, where children got a simplified introduction to money management. They learned about saving money, the role of ATMs, and the services provided by banks, helping sow the seeds of financial literacy early on.
A quick and thrilling visit to Burger King and Reliance Mall brought additional excitement. Here, students got a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how restaurants and malls function, from customer service to cleanliness and organisation. These pit stops also allowed them to observe real-world applications of communication, counting, manners, and waiting for one’s turn — all crucial life skills.
Throughout the trip, the young learners interacted with professionals, asked questions, and related their experiences to classroom learning. This hands-on approach sparked curiosity, strengthened vocabulary, enhanced communication skills, and nurtured a sense of belonging and awareness within their community.
Such field trips align perfectly with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), emphasising inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all. Apeejay Education’s emphasis on learning through play truly came alive during this neighbourhood exploration. As students returned to school, their faces beamed with stories and reflections — proof that when learning is fun, every street becomes a story, every place becomes a classroom, and every moment becomes a lesson.
