The Visapur Fort, also known as Visapoor Fort, is a prominent hill fort located near the village of Visapur, close to Lonavala. This destination has become a favoured weekend getaway for adventurers from Pune and Mumbai, particularly for those keen on trekking. The journey to the fort is characterised by a rocky yet inviting climb that begins at Bhaje village and takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours each way, culminating at an elevation of 3,556 feet.

Standing at 1,084 meters above sea level, Visapur Fort offers breathtaking panoramic views of verdant hills. The monsoon season is the ideal time to visit, as the landscape transforms into a lush green paradise with brimming waterfalls and enchanting fog. Constructed as a twin to the famed Lohagad Fort, Visapur Fort is situated at a higher altitude and spans a larger area, making it a significant historical and architectural site.

There are two main routes to ascend Visapur Fort:

Route 1: The more direct and faster route starts from the base village of Lohagadwadi, which also serves as the starting point for Lohagad Fort. This path is well-defined and more straightforward, making it suitable for trekkers seeking a quicker ascent.

Route 2: The second route, while more winding and slower, offers a thrilling and adventurous experience, especially during the monsoon season. To take this route, drive to Patan village and ask locals for directions to the trek’s starting point. This path takes trekkers through diverse terrains, including grasslands, multiple waterfalls, and dense forests. The final ascent involves walking directly up a flowing waterfall. Although the route is generally well-marked, some sections may require careful attention to the arrows etched into the rocks. Remember to follow the trail that ascends next to the waterfall for the best experience.

Whether you choose the faster, more direct path or the adventurous, scenic route, the journey to Visapur Fort promises stunning views, rich history, and an exhilarating trekking experience.
