The School of Design and Visual Arts (SDVA) at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram successfully conducted a Doctoral Research Committee (DRC) meeting, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and research advancement in design and visual arts. The session was chaired by Dr. Tikendra Kumar Sahu, who expressed his honour in leading the meeting and appreciated the growing depth of scholarly pursuits within the school.
The DRC was graced by a panel of distinguished experts, including Dr. Sucharita Kumari, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Internal Member; Dr. Sudhakar Sharma and Dr. Aarti Grover as External Experts; along with Dr. Sangeeta Taneja and Dr. Meenakshi as Internal Members, the latter also serving as the Ph.D. Coordinator. Co-Guides Dr. Rimpy Parmar and Dr. Gagan Gambhir were also present, contributing valuable perspectives.


Sharing his thoughts, Dr. Tikendra Kumar Sahu, Chairperson of the DRC, expressed, “In the confluence of critique and creativity lies the true spirit of research. It was deeply fulfilling to witness our scholars engaging with questions that transcend conventional boundaries, striving toward knowledge that is both intellectually grounded and socially relevant.”
Sharing a note of inspiration, Dr. Sucharita Kumari added a practical philosophical reflection mentioning, “Young minds must always remain open—to open up and extend their wings to fly toward new horizons. Research is not only about finding answers but about discovering new paths of thought.”
Further, Dr. Sudhakar Sharma, External Expert, said, “The depth of interdisciplinary inquiry and the originality of themes explored today were truly commendable. This reflects a well-nurtured research culture at SDVA.”
Dr. Aarti Grover echoed similar sentiments highlighting, “It’s heartening to see young researchers not only committed to their topics but also open to feedback—a sign of true academic maturity.”


Ph.D. scholars presented their research progress during the session, showcasing commendable academic rigour, innovation, and contextual understanding in their work. The committee offered insightful feedback, helping scholars refine their approaches while encouraging a spirit of critical inquiry and creative thought. The meeting highlighted SDVA’s dedication to nurturing research that is both impactful and intellectually enriching within the evolving landscape of design education.
One of the Ph.D. scholars Ramanpreet shared, “The structured process and clear communication made the six-month progress meetings smooth and productive. We truly appreciate the thoughtful planning and support.”
Another Ph.D. scholar Koeli Mukherjee added, “I’m grateful for the thoughtfully organised meetings. The clarity, care, and encouragement offered throughout made the entire experience feel both purposeful and supportive.”

Lastly, special thanks were extended to the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Vijay Vir Singh, Registrar, Dr. Pradeep Kumar, and Dean of SDVA, Prof. Sasi Gopal Menon, for their unwavering support in facilitating the smooth conduct of the meeting.
The DRC meeting not only marked an academic milestone but also served as a testament to the university’s vibrant and collaborative research environment. As the session concluded, it reaffirmed a shared belief: that research is both a discipline and a calling—a journey into the unknown, driven by curiosity, courage, and an unwavering pursuit of knowledge.
