‘Exhausted’: Poem by Shritika Ugale, Apeejay School, Nerul

My heart’s become like a stone, so lifeless, heavy and gray
Like being lost in an ocean, in need to be afloat, but there’s just no way
Anxiously looking for a lifeline, something like a rope to cling onto
Having trouble, finding my footing
Whilst drowning in sorrow too

Life is somewhat like a canvas, mine with colors which faded away
Like being a bird with broken wings, unable to find its way
In a haste to find my voice, my words just won’t come out right
Like a whisper in the wind, a faint, sweet fading light

Tired of pretending, tired of putting on a show
Exhausted of living, I’m exhausted of fighting, but I have nowhere else to go
Still searching for a way out, trying to escape the pain
But every door opened, just leads back, the same old refrain

I pray to God every night, with trembling hands and a plea
Just take away my suffering, with the gift of death, please set me free.

Just take away my suffering, with the gift of joy, please set me free.

I am exhausted with sadness. I want to be happy again!
