Enchanting beach dream: A mermaid’s tale

One bright afternoon, I, along with my family, went to a beach not much visited by people. Everyone started unpacking the things in the rented cottage. All the elders went inside the cottage to rest. My small brother yelled, ‘Guys, I have found the ball.’ ‘Hooray!’, we began playing Dodgeball.

While playing, my elder sister threw the ball so hard that it went to the other side of the big rock. As usual, being the youngest, I was asked to bring the ball. Soon, I found the ball but I saw something wagging. It was like a fishtail. The moment I went nearer to it, I was pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful mermaid. She had sapphire blue eyes, shiny golden hair, and a colourful hair clip clipped in her hair. She asked, ‘Who are you?’ I’m Snigdha. She seemed to be a friendly mermaid. She took me to her ‘underwater world,’ to a huge castle and made me sit on a big swing made of corals. The other pretty mermaids helped the swing move swiftly, to and fro. I also had triple-flavoured seaweed cake. I was having the best time of my life.

Well, at night when I was half asleep, I heard some strange voices. I immediately opened my eyes and looked outside. The mermaids were planning to harm me. Panicked, I looked for a door to escape and found a small one, and swam out from it. The mermaids followed me, but I had a miraculous escape. I was breathing heavily and opened my eyes. Where are the mermaids? “Oh! It was just a dream,” I exclaimed. Good gracious, what a relief! Suddenly my hand clutched something. It was the same colourful hair clip that the mermaid was wearing. I threw it into the sea, and it sank deep.
