The Centre for Research and Development at Apeejay School of Management (ASM) recently organised a comprehensive Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). Designed to empower faculty members with advanced analytical tools for academic research, the session aimed to deepen understanding of PLS-SEM and enhance the methodological rigour of future scholarly work.

The FDP was led by Prof. Anushka Goel and Prof. Nupur Soti, both of whom brought their expertise and clarity to a complex yet essential statistical technique. PLS-SEM, increasingly used in social sciences and business research, is particularly valuable for analyzing latent constructs and testing theoretical models. The session focused not only on theoretical foundations but also emphasized practical application, making the learning highly impactful for faculty members.

Using the SmartPLS software, the facilitators provided live demonstrations that covered the full process of model building—from designing measurement models to evaluating structural models. The interactive format enabled participants to follow along with real-time examples, gaining a hands-on understanding of how PLS-SEM can be applied effectively in various research contexts.

One of the major strengths of the FDP was its clarity and structure. Complex statistical procedures were broken down into digestible segments, allowing even those with minimal prior exposure to the technique to engage meaningfully with the content. This thoughtful design was reflected in the overwhelmingly positive feedback received from the attendees.

Dr. Pragya, one of the participants, described the session as “highly engaging and informative,” commending the facilitators for explaining difficult concepts with clarity and practical relevance. Similarly, Dr. Vernika expressed appreciation for the “well-structured and application-oriented” nature of the workshop, emphasising its value in enhancing her own research approach.

The session successfully fulfilled its objective of not just introducing PLS-SEM as a tool but also enabling participants to apply it confidently in their research projects. Faculty members walked away with new insights into model validation, hypothesis testing, and data interpretation, all of which are essential for producing high-quality, impactful research.

Principal coordinators of the programme remarked that such initiatives underscore ASM’s ongoing commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and research excellence. The FDP on PLS-SEM is expected to have long-term benefits, equipping faculty with tools that support evidence-based academic inquiry and meaningful contributions to their respective fields.

With growing emphasis on research-driven education, such faculty development programmes position ASM at the forefront of academic advancement and professional development.
