At Apeejay School, Model Town, the overall development of students has always been a key priority. In line with this approach, a special session titled ‘Let’s Talk: Feeling Sharing’ was recently organised for the students of Class VII B. The session focused on a topic that is often overlooked but is extremely important — emotional well-being.

Students in this age group, around 13 years old, go through several physical, mental, and emotional changes. They may often feel confused, overwhelmed, or unsure of how to express themselves. Understanding this, the school decided to conduct an interactive and thoughtful session to guide them through this phase.

Creating a Safe Space

The session was conducted by the School Counselor, Ms Shilpi, who has been working closely with students to help them cope with emotional challenges. She began by explaining how talking about one’s feelings is not a sign of weakness but a way to stay healthy and strong.

She gently encouraged the students to talk about their emotions, whether it was happiness, sadness, anger, or fear. She assured them that sharing their feelings in a safe environment is important and necessary for personal growth.

The classroom was turned into a safe and supportive space where every student felt heard. Many of them opened up about their experiences and emotions, which not only helped them release built-up stress but also allowed others to feel they were not alone.

The Importance of Expression

Through interactive activities and open discussion, students learnt that bottling up emotions can lead to more stress. They were taught to recognise their feelings and were shown simple ways to manage them, such as talking to someone they trust, journaling, or simply taking a moment to breathe.

The session helped students understand the power of empathy, as they listened to their classmates share personal thoughts. The event was an important reminder that emotional education is just as important as academics. By addressing the needs of growing adolescents, Apeejay School, Model Town, once again demonstrated its commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals.

Sessions like these build a strong foundation for mental wellness and help students become more self-aware, confident, and compassionate. The school plans to conduct similar sessions for other classes as well.

In today’s fast-paced world, such efforts truly make a difference — teaching students that it is okay to feel, and even more okay to talk about it.
