Hiroshima Day serves as an excellent platform for peace advocacy. Schools use this occasion to educate students about the importance of peace, conflict resolution, and the dangers of nuclear proliferation. Activities such as peace marches, essay competitions, and art exhibitions can engage students in meaningful discussions and reflections on the importance of maintaining global peace and security.
Hiroshima Day, observed annually on August 6, marks the anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Japan, in 1945. This event, which brought about unprecedented destruction and loss of life, stands as a powerful reminder of the devastating effects of nuclear weapons.
Observing Hiroshima Day in schools is crucial for several reasons, encompassing education, peace advocacy, historical remembrance, and the promotion of global citizenship. For the same, Apeejay School, Tanda Road organised an event and engaged in a series of educational and reflective activities for the students of class VI.

The commemoration began with the screening of a poignant documentary that vividly depicted the events and aftermath of the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. This powerful visual narrative provided students with a deeper understanding of the immense destruction and human suffering caused by nuclear warfare.
Following the documentary, a thought-provoking discussion session was held, where students were encouraged to share their reflections and ask questions about the documentary.
To symbolise peace and hope, the students participated in a crane-making activity using colourful origami sheets. This activity was inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki and the thousand paper cranes, which have become a global symbol of peace and the innocent victims of war. As they folded each crane, students contemplated the enduring message of hope and the importance of striving for a world without nuclear weapons.

Ms Deepti Kaushal, the school coordinator, addressed the students, highlighting the significance of Hiroshima Day and the importance of promoting peace and harmony in the world. She emphasised the need for young people to learn from history and to carry forward the values of peace, compassion, and humanity.
The day’s activities not only educated the students about a pivotal moment in history but also encouraged them to reflect on the broader implications of war and the enduring need for peace.
Through these meaningful activities, the school reaffirmed its commitment to fostering a culture of remembrance and peace among its students.
