Aryan Sharma, who pursued B Com Hon. ACCA from the School of Management Sciences at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram, discovered his passion for cultural and academic events while studying at the University. This allowed him to showcase his talents and engage within the University community. His interest in these events stemmed from a desire to develop holistically and create memorable experiences during his college years.
The talented youth has till date earned 10 trophies and have won first and second prizes in Elaan and Talent Hunt. Let’s read the interview in which he explains about his journey and more:
Edited excerpts:
How do you feel about these achievements?
My involvement and success in these events have not only brought personal satisfaction but also contributed to my growth and recognition within the university community. I am grateful for the opportunities and support provided by Apeejay Stya University and look forward to continuing this journey of personal and professional development.
When did you start participating in these events?
I began participating in cultural and academic events from my first year itself. These events ranged from solo singing, mimicry, solo dance, debate, and elocution competitions to larger festivals like Cultural Carnival, Elaan 2023, and Talent Hunt 2023. Each event provided a platform to express my creativity, enhance my public speaking skills, and build confidence.
How long did it take you to achieve these accolades?
Over the course of my B Com program, I actively participated in various events, eventually earning 10 trophies. The journey was both challenging and rewarding. Initially, I lacked confidence, but the support and encouragement from faculty members and my peers helped me overcome my insecurities. Each event required meticulous preparation, whether it was practicing songs, choreographing dance routines, or honing my debating skills. My consistent efforts and passion for performing paid off as I achieved recognition across different categories.

Two challenges to keep in mind when participating in cultural and academic events
1. Time Management: Balancing academic responsibilities with event preparation can be challenging. It requires effective time management to ensure neither academics nor event participation is compromised.
2. Stage Fright: Overcoming stage fright and performing confidently in front of large audiences is a common challenge. Practice and positive self-talk are essential to overcoming this fear.
How did mentors at Apeejay help you to achieve this?
Dr. Sonam Raheja, in particular, played a pivotal role in my journey. She recognised my potential early on and provided continuous motivation and guidance. Her belief in my abilities encouraged me to participate actively and strive for excellence. Additionally, the faculty members from the School of Management Sciences were supportive, providing valuable feedback and encouragement. Their collective support created a nurturing environment that allowed me to thrive.
What is your next plan?
Having achieved significant success in cultural and academic events during my undergraduate studies, I plan to continue participating in such activities in the future. My next goal is to mentor and inspire other students to explore their talents and participate actively in cultural events. Additionally, I aim to further develop my skills in public speaking and performance arts, potentially exploring opportunities at a professional level.
