February 14 is often associated with love and togetherness. The community of Apeejay’s IB School, Apeejay School International, Panchsheel Park, came together for a cause that beautifully reflected the true spirit of compassion — a Blood Donation Camp organised in association with the Rotary Blood Centre. The initiative witnessed wholehearted participation from teachers, parents, and staff, all united by a shared purpose: saving lives.

The camp commenced at 10:30 am on the school’s ground floor. The Rotary Blood Centre team ensured that the entire process was conducted smoothly and hygienically. The medical staff was well-equipped with sterilised needles, sanitised equipment, and all essential medical facilities to guarantee safety and comfort for every donor. The systematic arrangement and professional supervision created a reassuring environment, especially for first-time donors.

Before donating, each participant was required to fulfil specific eligibility criteria. Donors needed to have a haemoglobin (HB) level above 12 and should not have consumed any medication in the last 24 hours, ensuring each individualweighed 50 kg. Individuals who had undergone major viral illnesses or received a tattoo within the past year were advised not to donate. One must have had proper meals and a good amount of sleep the day before donating. Every donor filled out a detailed medical form, followed by a blood pressure check and a haemoglobin test to ensure they were fit to proceed. This careful screening reflected the organisers’ commitment to responsible and safe blood donation practices.

Mr Anuj Upadhyay, CCMO of the Rotary Blood Bank, appreciated the school’s initiative and highlighted the importance of voluntary blood donation in saving countless lives. He emphasised how educational institutions play a crucial role in spreading awareness and encouraging young minds to participate in social responsibility.

“Our organisation conducts blood donation camps, which offer many benefits to donors. For personal donors, the physical benefits include reduced cholesterol levels, better maintenance of blood pressure, and improvement in certain skin problems. We provide donors with a card that is valid for one year for themselves and their family members. You can donate any blood group, and if you or your family needs any blood group within one year, you can present the card and receive the required unit from us. There are many benefits associated with blood donation; physically, the body becomes stronger, the heart functions more smoothly, and overweight individuals may even experience slight weight loss,” he stated.

The school Vice-principal, Ms Neha Sharma, donated blood for the first time. Reflecting on her experience, she said, “It was my first time donating blood, and I am truly happy that I could help save someone’s life. What a meaningful way to begin the day!”

The camp began on an inspiring note as Ms Arpita Khandelwal, PYP & MYP Math Facilitator, became the first donor of the day. Sharing her experience, she expressed, “I am so happy and proud of myself for taking this step. I will definitely continue to contribute in the future.” Her enthusiasm motivated many others to step forward.

Mr Anant, Robotics and AI Facilitator, described the experience as special and fulfilling. He shared how contributing to such a noble cause made the day even more memorable. Similarly, Ms Sonali Saxena, MYP Coordinator and a second-time donor, expressed her joy and excitement. She hoped that her donation would make a positive difference in someone’s life.

The camp also saw active participation from parents. Mr Ankit Khetterpal, father of Suhina Khetterpal (MYP-1), expressed deep gratitude towards the school for organising such a thoughtful initiative. Ms Deepali Gupta, mother of Shreya Gupta (MYP-5), shared that although she felt slightly nervous initially, she felt proud and energised after donating. She mentioned that the moment she read the school’s message about the camp, she decided to contribute without hesitation.

After the donation, all participants were presented with certificates of appreciation along with refreshments and souvenirs provided by the Rotary Blood Centre. The camp concluded on a heartwarming note, leaving everyone with a sense of pride and fulfilment.

Overall, the Blood Donation Camp at Apeejay’s IB School stood as a powerful reminder that true love lies in selfless service. The school once again demonstrated its commitment to community welfare by turning the day into a celebration of humanity and hope.
