‘Diwali’-Where happiness sparkles!

Diwali is one of the most celebrated festivals in India, known for its joy and splendour. It is also called the Festival of Lights as it signifies the triumph of light over darkness but I think it should be called the festival of cleaning and decorating the house. My grandmother and mother start Diwali celebrations with the cleaning of the house. From washing the curtains to cleaning the fans, from cleaning every corner of the house to discarding useless old stuff-Diwali is the time for thorough cleaning of the houses.

I am just happy with the thought of the holidays we get due to Diwali and the immense fun me and my sister have on this day. Of course, buying new clothes of our choice is an additional bonus. I love this festival as the whole city looks so sparkling on this day.Actually Diwali marks the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya after  14 years of exile and people celebrate it to express their happiness on the homecoming of Lord Ram.

On this day Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped as it is believed that worshiping these deities brings wealth, prosperity, and good luck. Indeed it’s true for the kids as we get money after the puja from our parents and grandparents. Lightning diyas are a traditional practice in most homes, however, people decorate their houses with colorful lights and Rangolis too. Sharing festive meals and exchanging gifts and sweets on this day strengthens the bonds between family and friends. But the amazing time is when we burst crackers. However, this time I have decided not to burst too many as it turns the sky hazy and causes a lot of pollution.

Although celebrating an eco-friendly Diwali is the need of the day but it would be unfair to say that I won’t be bursting any crackers but yes, I can burst a little bit. But in case u opt to burst too please burst under the supervision of elders, keep a bucket of water nearby, and wear cotton clothes. This  Diwali support local artisans by purchasing handmade gifts, diyas, and decorations and spread happiness.

Don’t just light diyas but light up hearts too by spending time with your parents and elders, for their love is the brightest light in our lives.

Wishing you all a very Happy Diwali.
