Diwali, the festival of lights, is a time to celebrate not only with family but also with the community, symbolising togetherness, compassion, and joy. This year, the students and faculty of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) in Jalandhar embodied these values with a unique initiative. Under the “Helping Hands” program, AIMETC’s NSS Club organised a special Diwali visit to the Apahij Ashram – Red Cross School, located in Maqsudan, Jalandhar, to extend festive cheer to orphans by donating essential items.

The students actively participated in collecting a range of items, from clothing and food supplies to small gifts, for the children at the Ashram. On the day of the visit, the NSS Club students distributed these donations and spent time interacting with the children, fostering an environment of inclusivity and warmth. Their efforts not only brought smiles to the children’s faces but also demonstrated the value of kindness and community support during festive times.

Guiding this initiative were faculty coordinators, Dr. Avnip Deora, Dean of the School of Information Technology, Mr. Sunny Gulati from the School of Management, and Mr. Vikas Kumar from the School of Engineering, who all played significant roles in overseeing the event. The initiative’s impact extended beyond material donations, as the AIMETC team engaged in heartfelt conversations and shared joyful moments with the children, underscoring the true spirit of Diwali.

Dr. Rajesh Bagga, the Director of AIMETC, praised the students and faculty for their involvement and commitment to making a difference. He highlighted, “The importance of such outreach programmes add immense value among young learners and organising these meaningful activities are crucial. Social responsibility should be an ongoing effort rather than a one-time gesture.”

Through this visit, AIMETC’s NSS Club illuminated the lives of those in need, reminding everyone that the essence of Diwali lies in spreading happiness and giving back to the community. This initiative not only brought joy to the children at the Ashram but also instilled a sense of responsibility and empathy among AIMETC’s students, reinforcing the idea that even small acts of kindness can light up lives during the festive season.
