Diving into the joy of numbers and equations

Apeejay School, Model Town, enthusiastically celebrated National Mathematics Day recently in honour of the legendary mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The day was packed with engaging and innovative activities that highlighted the significance of Math in our daily lives while encouraging students to explore its wonders.

The celebrations began with a PowerPoint presentation competition on the theme of Real-life Applications of Mathematics, where students showcased their creativity and analytical skills. Through insightful slides, they demonstrated how mathematics influences fields like architecture, economics, and technology. This was followed by a virtual session on Mathematics in engineering, which enlightened students about the critical role of mathematics in engineering disciplines, inspiring many to consider STEM careers.

To foster hands-on learning, students participated in an activity of making shapes with clay, where they crafted various geometric shapes, combining fun with fundamental concepts of geometry. Adding a cinematic touch, a movie on Srinivasa Ramanujan was screened, portraying his extraordinary contributions. This session instilled a sense of pride and inspiration among the students, motivating them to embrace challenges with determination.

Interactive games like Math tombola and quiz brought an element of excitement, with students solving problems to win rewards, enhancing their mental agility and problem-solving skills. The fun continued with Number Races, where students competed to solve numerical puzzles in record time, promoting teamwork and quick thinking.

The event culminated with students reflecting on the incredible legacy of Ramanujan and the importance of mathematics in shaping the world. Their enthusiastic participation and curiosity underscored the success of the event.

Officiating Principal, Mrs Priyanka Grover, Apeejay School, Model Town expressed her delight, stating, “National Mathematics Day is an opportunity to honour Ramanujan’s contributions and ignite a love for mathematics among our students. The variety of activities ensures that every student finds joy in learning.”
