It is important to regularly hold special events that bridge the gap between tradition and modern science, encouraging critical thinking, fostering curiosity, and enhancing interdisciplinary learning. These experiences empower students to explore and understand the world through a deeper, scientific perspective.
The journey of exploring myths and scientific reality at Apeejay School, Noida was nothing short of extraordinary. It was a truly remarkable endeavour that not only fostered deep learning but also instilled curiosity among students and teachers alike. The collaborative effort yielded fascinating insights, unearthing hidden secrets and providing a scientific foundation for many stories and events previously thought to be mere folklore.
The students, guided by dedicated mentors, delved into a variety of subjects that bridged the gap between mythology and science. The experience was enriching, as students were able to trace real-life occurrences through scientific measures. The mythological tales, which were once considered mere narratives, came alive with scientific explanations.

For instance, the ancient knowledge regarding the movements of the Sun and the moon to understand time was further enhanced through the study of sundials. Each wedding ritual practised across different cultures was explored in-depth, uncovering the scientific rationale behind these customs.
‘Science and everyday life cannot and should not be separated. All outstanding work, in art as well as in science, results from immense zeal applied to a great idea’ mentioned Ms Pinky Mathur, Project Leader, MYTHS AND SCIENTIFIC REALITY, by British Council- RIDs .
The significance of flora and its association with ancient practices and remedies also played a crucial role in the project. The medicinal value and chemical properties of various plants, as researched by our students, provided concrete scientific evidence. This reinforced the time-honoured wisdom passed down through generations, emphasising that the home remedies used by our grandparents had a solid scientific base.
One of the most captivating aspects of this research was the exploration of ‘Lost Cities of the World’. Students utilised Google Earth to locate these ancient cities and unravelled the reasons for their rise, prosperity, and eventual disappearance. This exercise allowed them to analyse historical and geographical factors, helping them understand the stories behind their downfall.

The findings were shared with peers, seniors, and students from collaboration schools during engaging PowerPoint presentations via Zoom meetings and email exchanges. The thrill of seeing and discussing underwater cities and ancient civilisations captured the imagination of everyone involved, creating a shared sense of awe and curiosity.
Integrating these findings across various subjects and current syllabi enriched the teaching-learning process. It encouraged students to think critically and connect seemingly disparate topics in a meaningful way. The feedback from parents and visitors was overwhelmingly positive, praising the depth of research and the effort put into making learning both fun and informative.

Overall, the project on myths and scientific reality was a resounding success. It provided a holistic learning experience for both students and teachers, fostering a deeper understanding of the world around us through the lens of science and history.
