The Draksharamam Temple, one of the five ancient temples devoted to Lord Shiva, is situated along the eastern bank of the sacred Godavari River in Andhra Pradesh. Known as “Dakshin Kashi,” it’s revered as a highly significant pilgrimage site. The temple’s origins date back to the 11th century, and its architecture—resembling a fortress—features intricate carvings, symbols, and inscriptions that captivate visitors and devotees alike. The nearby Sapta Godavari Kundam adds to the mystical allure, drawing pilgrims worldwide who are enchanted by the temple’s storied legends and sacred ambiance.

Surrounded by serene scenery, the 40-kilometer journey from Rajahmundry to Draksharamam offers a peaceful road trip ideal for travelers seeking spirituality and scenic beauty. For access, Rajahmundry serves as the closest airport, while rail travelers can use stations in Rajahmundry, Samalkot, or Kakinada. Frequent buses also service the area, though many visitors prefer private taxis or self-driving to enjoy the journey fully.
This remarkable temple offers not only a religious pilgrimage but also an immersion into India’s rich cultural and architectural heritage.
