Due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday, 31st July, the Delhi government has declared the closure of all government and private schools in the city on Thursday. The Education Minister Atishi announced that all schools in the national capital will be closed in light of the forecast for more heavy rain.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that clouds have converged over Delhi from all directions, predicting widespread light to moderate rainfall with isolated intense spells. The heavy rainfall has already caused significant disruption.
Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has cautioned all officers to remain alert due to the ongoing heavy rainfall. Wednesday’s rain provided some relief from the humid weather but caused severe traffic congestion and waterlogging in several parts of the city, including near AIIMS and the ITO area.
The bad weather also led to 10 flight diversions at Delhi airport between 7:30 pm and 8 pm. The IMD has warned that the showers will likely cause slippery roads, low visibility, traffic disruptions, and localised waterlogging in low-lying areas, with intermittent showers expected in Delhi until August 5.
