The Delhi government’s Directorate of Education has declared the resumption of in-person classes for all students in government, government-aided, and recognised private schools. The directive, effective from January 15, 2024, encompasses students from nursery, KG, and primary levels.
In light of the prevalent foggy conditions in the region, precautionary measures have been implemented. According to the directive, no school, including double-shift schools, will commence classes before 9 am. Additionally, schools are instructed not to extend their classes beyond 5 pm until further notice.
While schools gear up to welcome students back to physical classrooms, these measures are expected to facilitate a seamless transition while prioritising the health and safety of the educational community.
Delhi is at present, experiencing severe cold conditions, with the national capital recording a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday – the lowest this winter. Thick fog has further compounded challenges for residents.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that this temperature is four notches below the season’s average, signifying an intensified winter chill. As the region grapples with stringent anti-pollution measures and challenging weather conditions, the primary focus remains on safeguarding public health and enhancing air quality.
