In a groundbreaking initiative, the Delhi government has launched “Project Abhishikt,” aimed at revolutionising the educational landscape for gifted students in government schools. This project is set to reshape how talent is identified and nurtured, ensuring that exceptional students receive the attention and resources necessary to maximise their potential.

Training teachers to identify and support talent:

At the heart of Project Abhishikt is a comprehensive training program developed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). This five-day program, held at a government school in Kalkaji, brings together 104 teachers from across Delhi. The training focuses on equipping these educators with the skills to identify and support students who demonstrate exceptional abilities, particularly those in classes 6 and 9.

The program began with an introductory session on “Understanding Giftedness,” designed to help teachers recognise the unique needs and challenges faced by gifted students. This foundational knowledge is crucial in creating an educational environment that nurtures talent rather than allowing it to go unnoticed.

A tailored curriculum for exceptional students

One of the primary goals of Project Abhishikt is to bridge the gap between the current academic performance of gifted students and their true potential. Often, these students are overlooked in traditional classroom settings, where the focus is more on remedial education. However, Project Abhishikt seeks to change this by developing a specialised curriculum tailored to the unique abilities of these students.

SCERT Joint Director Nahar Singh emphasised that the initiative aims to provide gifted students with the support they need to excel.

A broader impact across Delhi Schools

Project Abhishikt is being implemented in 15 government schools across Delhi, marking a significant step towards creating a more inclusive educational environment. The initiative not only focuses on academic excellence but also on ensuring that every student, regardless of their abilities, receives the necessary support to thrive.

By providing specialised training for teachers and a curriculum that caters to the needs of gifted students, the Delhi government is setting a new standard for education in the capital. This initiative underscores the importance of recognising and nurturing talent from an early age, ensuring that no student’s potential is left untapped.

Project Abhishikt is more than just a training program; it is a vision for the future of education in Delhi. By focusing on the needs of gifted students, the initiative seeks to create an environment where every student can reach their full potential. As this project unfolds, it promises to bring about a transformative change in how talent is recognised and nurtured in Delhi’s government schools.
