The IT Club of Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), Jalandhar, successfully organised an engaging and skill-oriented competition titled “Data to Decisions: Mastering the Art of Data Preprocessing.” The event was designed exclusively for B.Tech, BCA, and MCA students, offering them a dynamic platform to demonstrate their expertise in data handling and preprocessing techniques—an essential foundation for machine learning and data analytics.
The competition revolved around real-world data challenges, encouraging participants to work on raw datasets that required cleaning, transformation, and preparation before analysis. Students showcased their technical proficiency by applying advanced preprocessing techniques such as handling missing values, normalisation, encoding categorical variables, and performing data transformations. The activity not only tested their conceptual understanding but also assessed their practical problem-solving abilities and creativity in approaching complex data scenarios.
Throughout the event, participants displayed remarkable enthusiasm and competitive spirit. The judges appreciated the analytical approach and structured workflow adopted by many teams. The competition highlighted how preprocessing, often considered a preliminary step, plays a crucial role in generating accurate and meaningful insights from data.
Amisha and Preeti Verma from MCA IV secured the First Position with their comprehensive and efficient data preparation model. Kashish Verma from B.Tech CSE VI clinched the Second Position, while Satnam Singh from B.Tech CSE VI bagged the Third Position. Their performances stood out for their precision, logical structuring, and effective implementation of preprocessing strategies.

Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director of AIMETC, congratulated the winners and applauded all participants for their dedication and technical competence. In his address, he emphasized the importance of practical exposure and encouraged students to actively participate in such competitions to enhance their technical expertise and overall professional grooming. He remarked that hands-on learning experiences significantly bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry requirements.
The event was successfully coordinated by Mr. Rohit Verma, Assistant Professor, and Mr. Rajiv Kumar Bhardwaz, Head of the Department, School of Engineering and Technology. The student coordinators, Ms. Radhika (BCA VI) and Ms. Neha (MCA IV), played a vital role in ensuring smooth execution and active participation.
Sharing their feedback, participants described the competition as “challenging yet highly enriching,” noting that it strengthened their understanding of real-world data problems. One student mentioned that the event enhanced confidence in applying machine learning concepts practically. Faculty members appreciated the initiative, stating that such platforms nurture analytical thinking and industry-readiness.
Overall, the competition proved to be a valuable academic initiative, reinforcing the significance of data preprocessing in the evolving domain of data science and empowering students with practical skills for future technological advancements.
