Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, celebrates International Dance Day with fervour and zeal

Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, came alive with colours, rhythm, and cultural exuberance as it celebrated International Dance Day with great zeal and grandeur. The event served as a vibrant tribute to the universal language of dance, embodying artistic expression, physical well-being, and the rich cultural heritage of India.

The celebration began with compere Arshavi Verma of Class XI Science extending a warm welcome to the distinguished gathering. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Ms. Indu Sharma, Managing Director of Shiv Nritya Academy and a renowned choreographer. She was greeted with a traditional floral welcome, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the dispelling of ignorance and the ushering in of enlightenment and celebration.

A soul-stirring thought for the day was shared by Aakriti Bhat of Class V, setting the tone for the day and emphasising dance as a universal means of emotional expression and connection.

Principal Mr. A.K. Sharma, in his inaugural address, shared insightful thoughts on the historical and cultural significance of International Dance Day. He highlighted how dance, beyond being a form of entertainment, is an integral art that nurtures both physical fitness and mental well-being. He applauded the Dance Teacher, Ms. Shama Rani, and all participants for their spirited involvement, underlining the role of dance in the holistic development of students.

The highlight of the event was an electrifying inter-house dance competition where students from Beas, Saraswati, Satluj, and Yamuna Houses showcased diverse dance styles—from classical to contemporary and folk—through energetic, synchronised performances. The competition was divided into three categories: Junior (Classes III–V), Middle (Classes VI–VIII), and Senior (Classes IX–XII).

In the Junior categoryGuneet Gupta (V) and Manroop Kaur (IV) claimed the First PrizeAsreet Kaur (V) secured SecondSaarthak (IV) came Third, and Nehmat Kaur (III) earned a Consolation Prize.

In the Middle categoryDiya Verma (VIII) won FirstGurseerat Kaur (VII) took Second, and Ekampreet Kaur and Shagunpreet Kaur (VII) shared Third, while Navreet Kaur (VII) received the Consolation Prize.

In the Senior categoryHarvisha Chopra (X) and Lavanya (IX) jointly won First PrizeAvijot Kaur (IX) came Second, and Gurmehak Kaur (XI C) took Third.

The audience was also treated to an informative talk on the significance and global impact of International Dance Day by Aishpreet Kaur (XI Sc.), followed by a well-curated video presentation that deepened their understanding of the day’s relevance.

Chief Guest Ms. Indu Sharma lauded the performances and appreciated the school’s efforts to cultivate cultural appreciation and talent. She offered valuable tips to budding dancers, encouraging them to pursue their passion with discipline and creativity.

The celebration concluded with a Vote of Thanks by the Vice Principal Ms. Aarti Shorey Bhat, who expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, faculty, and students. The day ended on a high note with the Prize Distribution Ceremony, marking a successful tribute to the art of dance.
