Covid-19 pandemic: Problems and learnings

Published

on

The Covid-19 pandemic began three years ago, and during that time, the education system was significantly affected. The system changed overnight from offline to online classes. Some parents also lost their jobs, leading them to stop sending their children to school due to financial constraints. Daily wage labourers lost their work and returned to their villages, discontinuing the education of their children in government schools, which were previously free of cost. Additionally, some college students, who were excellent in their studies, couldn’t perform their best given the inadequateness in clarification of their doubts during online classes.

After nearly one year, everything began to change as vaccines and medicines like Remdesivir started to help combat the pandemic. However, people made various mistakes, such as assuming that taking two vaccine shots meant they no longer needed to wear masks or take precautions against Covid-19. The health ministry had already stated that vaccines were intended to prevent severe cases., but did not eliminate the risk of transmission. Furthermore, some scientists made false claims that taking the vaccine would result in death within two years, and unfortunately, many people believed them. However, subsequent research by other scientists debunked these claims and confirmed the 100% safety of vaccines. Nevertheless, some individuals still remained hesitant and did not take vaccines.

In the villages, vaccinators would sit idle the whole day. Eventually, they started visiting different houses to encourage people to get vaccinated. However, many individuals failed to understand the importance of vaccination and, based on the false claims they had heard, believed that taking the vaccine would lead to death within two years. They even slammed doors on the faces of vaccinators. It was only after influential figures, such as our Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, spread the message that the vaccine is completely safe, that people from all parts of the country became motivated and started getting vaccinated.

As of now, in the year 2023, everything is working fine, and we are safe and healthy because of the efforts of our healthcare workers, frontline workers, and scientists who developed vaccines and treated Covid-19 patients. The World Health Organisation (WHO) predicted that the pandemic would end by the end of this year. Let us extend a heartfelt salute to the healthcare workers, frontline workers, and scientists who played a crucial role in saving lives and mitigating the impact of this pandemic.
